Drone photography and all kinds of drone services have really taken off these past few years. Back when drones were first introduced to the commercial market, they were seen as luxury items that didn’t really do much other than fly around and take photos.

As drone technology evolved, drones have become cheaper and more accessible, and more and more people have found other uses for drones and drone technology. Today, there are plenty of industries that have found plenty of uses for drones, and more and more people are joining in the community of casual drone pilots.

However, because of the recent rise in the popularity of drones, governments from all over the world became concerned about the safety of these and began implementing laws and regulations to make sure that the drone pilot, the drone, and everyone around them come to no harm during a drone flight.

One of the laws implemented was the drone registration law. When you buy a new drone and are planning on flying it in the United States, you are required to register your drone with the FAA.

However, there are certain circumstances wherein your drone does not meet the criteria for drone registration. One of the criteria for drone registration is that your drone must weigh more than .55 lbs. If your drone weighs less than that, then there is no need to undergo the registration process.

So if you purchase a mini-drone just to fly around at your leisure, then there’s no need to register it. You should also be at least 13 years old to fly your drone. If you’re younger than 13 years old, then you should have somebody older than you undergo the registration process for you.

The drone registrations process with the FAA is surprisingly easy and no-fuss. All you have to do is create an account at the official FAA website, look for the link to take you to the drone registration page, and you can begin filling out your information.

You will be asked to specify what you plan to use your drone for, whether it’s for recreational or commercial use. If you’re planning on using your drone for commercial use, there are additional requirements to comply with, such as the fact that you have to be at least 16 years old and take an examination to be a licensed commercial drone pilot.

If you’re flying for recreational purposes, then you can simply proceed with filling out your information and then the payment for your drone registration. It only costs $5 to register your drone. If you’re on a website that tells you to pay more for registration, you might not be on the right website. Only register your drone with the official FAA website.

When you complete your drone registration process, you will be given a number. This number is your drone’s registration number. Make sure your mark your drone with this number before flying or shooting your drone photography.
