If you want to be a successful videographer, you have to create a portfolio that will amaze your prospective clients. You have to wow your clients enough that they will pay you for covering their events.

This is the first thing that clients will ask about when they meet with you. They want to see your works and how your techniques will comply with their “requirements.”

Building a portfolio, however, is not as easy as it sounds. You have to think about this as your main marketing material. This is going to be the determinant to whether your target audience will book your services or not. So, how can you go about it and how can your portfolio stand out from the rest of the videographers out there?

Use different kinds of techniques

You have to show your clients that you are capable of different techniques when it comes to shooting videos. Whether it’s taking videos from the ground or aerial videography, you need to be very versatile with the kinds of services you can offer.

Some clients are looking for a specific technique that should be used in their videos. You have to show them your skills through the various techniques that you are skilled in.

Cover different events

Make sure to cover different events, so that you can show your versatility. For example, you can cover a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, a wedding proposal, a corporate launching, a business opening, etc.

This will show your prospective clients that whatever event he has in mind, you have already experienced covering it. This will let the clients know that you already have the ideas set in mind about how to go about covering a certain occasion.

Focus on your “specialty”

Even if you want to show your versatility, you have to remember that to stand out from the rest of the videographers, you need to “specialize” on something. Where do you think you will be especially good at?

If you are more on the dramatic and creative side, you may want to focus on making wedding videos since these are extremely popular these days. If you think you are better at making formal types of videos, then maybe a business event is what you’re going to be good at.

Whatever you decide on, make sure there’s something there that will separate you from the rest of the pack. Otherwise, you will just be like every other videographer out there and nothing will set you apart.
