Wedding videos are the trendiest types of videos these days. You see them all the time on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo, and a videographer friend’s profile. These videos go viral on different social media platforms. You would notice, too, that there are wedding videographers that get hired all the time while there are videographers who rarely get any projects.

Why is that? What’s the difference? Are you the type of wedding videographer that a couple wants in their wedding? Make yourself a better wedding videographer by following these tips:

Communicate with the couple, venue, and vendors

Way before the wedding event, meet with the couple, the venue manager, and the different suppliers. This will help you streamline the whole process. Are there certain moments the couple wants you to capture in film? Will there be any surprise choreographies for the guests? Will the bride be wearing an important heirloom jewelry?

For the venue manager, you have to get information regarding the rules and regulations of the place. Do the churches allow videographers in certain areas? If you are not allowed to take photos from certain angles, you may want to bring a zoom lens to capture the moments.

The wedding videographer is the one person who will coordinate with all suppliers on the day of the wedding. You need to know the background music and where it will be used. You need to know the kinds of lights that will be available, as well as the setup for the DJ or the band.

You also need to collaborate with the photographer so both of you can capture the same scenarios in still and in video.

Be ready for all scenarios

Be ready for any scenarios that might occur during the wedding day. Make sure that your memory card is formatted and all your batteries are charged. There’s no use bringing all your gear with you. Simply put the heavy bag in the corner and be kind to your back and shoulders.

Carry only a couple of lens, your camera, and an extra battery pack. That should be enough. The worst thing is for a videographer to tell the couple to hold off tossing the bouquet because your batteries died.

Capture the traditional wedding shots

No matter how modern or avant-garde you are in terms of capturing scenes, be sure to always take the traditional shots. While experimenting is a great way to find your own style, couples are fairly traditional and they want to see their vows, first dance, bouquet toss, and cake cutting. Make sure you have all the important shots captured before getting all those cool transitional shots.
